AHPRA Registration Pathway

Get registered to nurse in Australia.

All registered and enrolled nurses in Australia must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through AHPRA. We coordinate the whole process for sponsored candidates.

1

Self-check

Confirm your overseas qualification is recognised by NMBA. Most Bachelor of Nursing degrees from approved countries qualify.

2

English test

IELTS 7.0 each band, OET B in each component, or equivalent in PTE / TOEFL. We help you prep.

3

Portfolio & assessment

Submit AHPRA application with qualifications, registration history, identity and CPD records. Bridging program if needed.

4

Registration & visa

Once registered, your sponsoring employer's migration agent lodges your 482 nomination and visa.

Don't have a degree but have years of aged care or disability support experience? You may not need AHPRA registration at all. Cert III Individual Support roles are unregistered and still come with full 482 sponsorship in many cases. Tell us about your experience and we'll point you to the right pathway.

★★★★★
I had been working as an RN in Cebu for seven years, but the AHPRA process felt overwhelming. Jobs Recruiter walked me through every form, helped me prep for OET, and matched me with an aged care provider in Brisbane who sponsored my 482. I started six months after our first call.

I am from Kerala and was told my Indian B.Sc Nursing would not be recognised. Jobs Recruiter explained exactly what bridging program I needed, helped me apply, and once I was AHPRA registered they connected me with a Sydney hospital that sponsored my visa. My family is here with me now.

I had a Cert III in Individual Support but no nursing degree. The team showed me that I did not need AHPRA for aged care work, just my Cert III, English test and police checks. Got me a 482 sponsored role in Adelaide as a personal care assistant. Three years later I am working towards my RN.

Common Questions

Nursing in Australia, answered.

What qualifications do I need to nurse in Australia?
For Registered Nurse roles, a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) recognised by AHPRA, plus AHPRA registration. For Enrolled Nurse, a Diploma of Nursing. For aged care and disability support, a Cert III in Individual Support is the typical baseline. We assess your qualifications and tell you exactly which pathway applies.
How much does a nurse earn in Australia?
A Registered Nurse with 1-3 years of experience typically earns $75,000-$90,000 base, before super, penalty rates and overtime. Senior RNs and Nurse Unit Managers earn $90,000-$135,000. Aged care nurses, mental health nurses and midwives have specific awards. Disability support workers earn $55,000-$68,000.
Do I need IELTS or OET for AHPRA?
Yes. AHPRA accepts IELTS Academic (7.0 in each band), OET (B in each component), PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT, with similar minimum scores. OET is purpose-built for healthcare and many candidates find it easier than IELTS. We can recommend test prep providers.
How long does AHPRA registration take?
From start to finish, expect 3-9 months depending on your qualification country, English test readiness and whether you need a bridging program. The slowest part is usually waiting for AHPRA's documentary assessment, which can take 8-16 weeks. We help you submit a strong application the first time.
Can my family come with me?
Yes. Your spouse or de facto partner and dependent children can be included on your 482 visa. Your partner gets full work rights, your kids attend Australian public schools, and Medicare healthcare covers the whole family from the day your visa is granted.
Will my employer pay my AHPRA fees?
Many employers do, especially in aged care where there's high demand. Some reimburse AHPRA registration fees, OET test costs and even visa application fees as part of the sponsorship package. We negotiate these as part of every offer.
What if my degree isn't recognised by AHPRA?
You may need to complete a Bridging Program (Outcomes Based Assessment for nurses) or, in some cases, additional units. We've helped candidates from over 20 countries navigate this, including specific guidance on the OBA. If a bridging program is required, we tell you upfront, so there are no surprises.
Do you charge candidates any fees?
No. Our placement fees are paid by sponsoring employers, not by you. You're responsible for your own AHPRA application fees, English test, medical exam and police clearances, but we make those costs clear upfront. If anyone in this industry asks you for an upfront placement fee, walk away.
