Why Australia for Aged Care

A sector that is growing, funded and regulated.

Australia's ageing population means aged care demand is rising every year. The federal government has committed significant funding after the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality. Providers actively sponsor overseas workers, and the Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement opens visa pathways for roles not on the standard skills list.

Multiple visa pathways

Aged care nurses qualify for the standard 482 visa. Personal care workers and assistants can be sponsored through the Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement, a dedicated pathway created specifically for this sector.

Improved pay

Following the Fair Work Commission's aged care work value case, wages have increased significantly. Aged care RNs earn $78k-$92k, with further increases legislated through to 2026.

Regulated quality

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission sets and enforces standards. Facilities are regularly audited, and staff-to-resident ratios are being mandated across states.

Family welcome

Your spouse gets full work rights on your visa. Children attend Australian public schools. Medicare healthcare covers your family from day one of your visa.

Regional opportunity

Aged care facilities in regional Australia often offer accommodation assistance, relocation support and faster permanent residency pathways through the regional 494 visa stream.

PR pathway

After 2-3 years on a 482 or labour agreement visa, most sponsored aged care workers transition to permanent residency through the 186 ENS or the labour agreement PR stream.

What is the Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement? It is a special visa pathway that allows approved aged care providers to sponsor overseas workers in roles not on the standard skilled occupation lists, including personal care workers and assistants in nursing. It provides a pathway to permanent residency and was created specifically to address the critical workforce shortage in aged care.
Pay & Conditions

Honest numbers, real conditions.

Australia has strict labour laws. Skilled visa workers are paid the same as Australian workers, no underpayment, no exploitation. These are typical aged care salaries we see in active sponsored roles.

Common Questions

Aged care in Australia, answered.

What is the Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement?
The Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement is a special visa pathway that allows approved aged care providers to sponsor overseas workers in roles not on the standard skilled occupation lists. This includes personal care workers and assistants in nursing. It provides a pathway to permanent residency and was created specifically to address the critical workforce shortage in aged care.
What qualifications do I need for aged care work in Australia?
For nursing roles (RN/EN), you need AHPRA registration, which requires a Bachelor or Diploma of Nursing plus English language proficiency. For personal care worker roles, a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or equivalent overseas qualification is typically required, along with relevant work experience.
How much does an aged care worker earn in Australia?
Aged care RNs earn $78,000 to $92,000 per year, with senior and clinical coordinator roles earning $90,000 to $105,000. Personal care workers earn $55,000 to $65,000, and team leaders $68,000 to $78,000. All roles receive 11.5% superannuation, penalty rates and 4 weeks paid annual leave on top.
Can my family come with me?
Yes. Your spouse or de facto partner and dependent children can be included on your visa application, whether you come on a 482 or a labour agreement visa. Your partner gets full work rights, and your children can attend Australian public schools. Medicare healthcare covers the whole family.
How long does it take from application to arriving in Australia?
Typically 4 to 10 months. For nursing roles, AHPRA registration assessment can take 4 to 8 weeks. Visa processing takes a further 3 to 6 months depending on the stream and current Department of Home Affairs queues. Labour agreement visas may have slightly different timelines.
Who handles my visa?
All visa applications, legal advice and lodgements are handled by our partner, a registered Australian lawyer and MARA-registered migration agent. We handle the recruitment match; they handle the law and the visa.
Will I have to pay any fees?
No recruitment fee. We don't charge candidates. Our fees are paid by the sponsoring employer. You will be responsible for your own visa application fee, registration fees, medical exam, police clearances and English test, and our migration partner's professional fees may apply for the legal/visa work. All costs are made clear upfront.
